Sensational! Hosta 'Bloodline' has a deep burgundy-red blush which covers the leaf and lasts longer than other blushes. It will certainly add another element to your colour palette. Strongest as it emerges in spring, the blush will last longest if grown in a cool spot, but with some direct sunlight. The flush of new leaves in midsummer will bring a new blush of red too. From Doug Ruff in Minnesota, this smooth-leaved hosta grows vigorously into a medium sized mound, has pale purple flowers on purple scapes, followed by purple seed pods. H. 'First Blush' is its Pollen Parent. Blush is created by Anthocyanin - a pigment present in numerous hosta stems, but less often in the leaves. It protects from cold and acts as a sunscreen for young tissue.

Plants are currently smallish, but are strong growing.
